A couple of months ago, I had a week off work, so I did what I normally do: escape Las Vegas. I decided it was time to check-out Chicago …in February. Not my most well thought-out plan.
Going from Las Vegas to Chicago, in the middle of a harsh winter felt something like being dropped-off on the planet Hoth; it was 12° F when I landed. Also, I was trying an experiment where the only luggage I took was my small 35-L North Face daypack. So, I did not bring nearly enough warm clothing! But, that’s what REI is for…
As I usually do when I take these solo trips, I booked a hostel in the city: Wrigley Hostel in the Wrigleyville neighborhood. It’s a fairly new hostel, and still a little small, but it was very nice, clean and had a friendly staff. It is also located in an excellent location, only about a block from the Addison Red stop, and more importantly, only a block from Wrigley Field, Home of the Chicago Cubs. That would be a much better bonus during the baseball season.
I was only there for a few days, but I was able to catch-up with some old friends and see a lot of sights. I also met a lot of cool people at the hostel, including a guy who came up for the weekend from Orlando, FL (originally Venezuela). He was *way* too excited to see all of the ice and snow in Chicago.
